Dear Mr. Salmond

Could I take this opportunity to express my thoughts and concerns regarding the current proposals to legislate for same-sex 'marriage'.

'Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord'
Psalm 33:12

UPDATE: 25/07/12

Scotland is set to become the first part of the UK to introduce gay marriage after the SNP government announced plans to make the change. 'Gay Marriage to be introduced in Scoltand' - BBC Report

"Ah, sinful nation, a people loaded with guilt, a brood of evildoers, children given to corruption! They have forsaken the LORD; they have spurned the Holy One of Israel and turned their backs on him". (Isaiah 1:4)

"Yet your countrymen say, 'The way of the Lord is not just.' But it is their way that is not just.

If a righteous man turns from his righteousness and does evil, he will die for it.
And if a wicked man turns away from his wickedness and does what is just and right, he will live by doing so. Yet, O house of Israel, you say, 'The way of the Lord is not just.' But I will judge each of you according to his own ways."  (Ezek 33:17-20)

First Minister of Scotland
Office of the First Minister

Dear Mr. Salmond

Same-sex 'Marriage'

In the most recent Scottish Parliamentary elections I sensed that the support which you (and your party) attracted was substantially from voters who were looking for good leadership. As we know, with leadership comes great responsibility; and with this in mind I write to you now.

I am a Scot. I was born in Scotland and have lived all my life in Scotland. I would also like to consider myself patriotic. However the path which you and others are following regarding changing the definition of marriage is one of which I am, both as a Scot and as a human being, thoroughly ashamed. If, as has been suggested, Scotland were to become the first nation within the UK to adopt such practices then that sense of shame would be even greater.

Recently, in Glasgow cathedral and before an august assembly which included Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and members of her royal family, you read from the Word of God. In this context I continue.

We learn from the Old Testament that a leader and a nation are blessed when they follow God’s pattern for a healthy society. The latter is based on the foundational element of the nuclear family: a man and a woman joined together in the covenant relationship of marriage; bearing and raising children within this setting. It is very sad that we have failed to encourage and maintain that ideal, but nevertheless it remains the God-given model, and should surely be our continual and unwavering aim and aspiration.

The present arrangements for civil partnerships are available for the very small minority who wish to engage in homosexual relationships, so the question must be asked why the push to introduce same-sex marriage? What is driving this agenda? (The cruel irony of course is that if same-sex marriage were to come into being, it would destroy the essence of the institution and render the word ‘marriage’ devalued to the point of meaningless.)

However, leaving all these questions and issues aside, the fact of the matter is that if the Scottish government goes forward with this proposal it will represent the most fundamental and destructive piece of social engineering in the history of our nation. But of infinitely more importance, it will be flying directly in the face of a creator God.

Regarding His framework we have indeed ‘disobeyed the laws, violated the statutes and broken the everlasting covenant’ (Is 24:5). We can read of the inevitable consequences in our Bibles (Lev 26:14 – 39; Deut 28:15-68).
The Maker of all heaven and earth has said: “[If] I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be built up and planted, and if it does evil in my sight and does not obey me, then I will reconsider the good I had intended to do for it” (Jer 18:9-10).

However God has provided a way out. But it is His way and not ours. We are required to humble ourselves, repent of our actions and change our ways (Lev 26:40; Ezek 33:11). By so doing we can again enjoy God’s favour and blessing. He has said: “if you walk in My statutes and keep My commandments” (Lev 26:3) then as a nation we will prosper (Lev 26:4-11; Deut 28:1-14; Jer 18:7-8).

The present proposals are an offence to God and, if implemented, will most surely have catastrophic consequences for our nation, and for any other nation going down the same road. It will impact negatively and profoundly on generations as yet unborn. It would be an indelible stain; the blackest of marks in our national history.

I pray for the sake of Scotland – both people and nation – that you will follow God’s ways in the position of great responsibility which you and your government occupy.

Yours most sincerely,

Colin Wilson

Redefinition of Morality

The campaign for the legalisation of same-sex ‘marriage’ is not an equality or inclusiveness issue. It is also not a matter of political correctness. Neither is it primarily about the redefinition of marriage, it is about the redefinition of morality. A legalised redefinition of marriage will be used to stealthily compel society (particularly through the education system) to embrace disordered values and practices.

If the number of persons availing themselves of the recognition of civil partnership is anything to go by, then it is likely, that relatively speaking not many people will avail themselves of same-sex ‘marriage’. If same-sex ‘marriage’ is legalised it will dramatically advance the desensitisation of the nation with regard to what is right and what is wrong.

It will in particular provide an insidious vehicle for the corruption of our children when it is introduced into the education system including nursery and primary school levels. Older children will be taught how to engage in immoral sexual activity under the guise of sexual health education. Education authorities will have to employ and approve only those teachers who agree to a binding assurance that their teaching will be in harmony with the new legislation.

The Christian Institute web site provides clear evidence of how the Scottish Parliament was issuing homosexual education packs to children even before their same-sex ‘marriage’ legislation proposals have been made law. This is surely an indication of how vigorously they (and the English government) will apply themselves to the task when they have the law to back them, and then the indoctrination will commence in earnest.

We mustn’t be deceived into believing any assurances that there will be exceptions granted to parents, teachers, churches or any other interested persons or parties who object, on religious, conscience or any other relevant grounds, even if such exceptions are included in the legislation.

Once on the statute book, other existing (including European) legislation will be brought into play to sweep away those ‘concessions’ in the same-sex ‘marriage’ legislation, and where that fails in its objective, amendments of the new legislation will easily follow.

After that, any opposition will be swiftly dealt with under the charge that to even civilly say anything in opposition to that which has become law in this regard will be interpreted as encouraging adverse discrimination and engendering hate, or incitement to breaking the law. This will also apply to parents and others who attempt to counter what is being taught in school.

The toleration of immorality is something far different from the legalising of immorality, and the exposing of the young to legitimised immorality is heinous.

In conclusion and by way of reassurance, I would advise you that I am aligned with the teaching of the church in that "every human person is a unique and irreplaceable gift created by our loving God," and therefore must be treated with love, respect and dignity.
